LOCATION / WEST CAMBRIDGE581 Mount Auburn Street, No. 1
Cambridge, MA 02138 The most wooded and least densely settled part of Cambridge, West Cambridge is comprised of several small, upscale, and distinctive residential neighborhoods. Heading westward from Harvard Square is “Tory Row”—as Brattle Street is known locally—which is home to many of Cambridge’s largest, toniest, and most architecturally significant houses. On the southwest corner, Coolidge Hill offers its residents a leafy “Wellesley in Cambridge” experience, located above the Shady Hill School and Buckingham Browne & Nichols’ Upper School. Above it, Larchwood—landscaped from what was once the 38-acre Larches Estate during the First World War—offers quiet and well landscaped streets, and an array of Georgian- and Tudor-Revival houses. Continuing westward beyond Aberdeen Avenue is Strawberry Hill, Cambridge’s smallest neighborhood, but the richest in outdoor spaces with the Fresh Pond Reservation and the Thomas P. O’Neill, Jr. Municipal Golf Course. Mount Auburn Street and Huron Avenue are the thoroughfares at the southern and northern edges, which are served by four MBTA bus routes leading to Harvard Square.
